President Mahama Cuts Sod for the contraction of Wenchi-Bole-Wa Roads
BIG PUSH Initiative: New Hope for Bono East, Savannah, Upper West Regions as President Mahama Cuts Sod for Major Road Projects Ghanaian farmers and traders along the Wenchi-Bole-Wa Road will soon get relief as President Mahama has cut the sod to start construction under the government’s flagship “Big Push” Initiative. This road corridor is a key economic route in Ghana’s northwest. It carries the country’s grain and livestock, with over 60% of agro-freight, such as maize, yam, millet, and cashew, moving through. The Wenchi-Bole-Wa Road connects the Bono, Savannah, and Upper West Regions, linking Ghana directly to the Burkina Faso border and boosting international trade. It is expected to create 1,800 direct jobs and 4,500 indirect jobs during construction. Once completed in 24 months, the project will cut travel time from 6 hours to under 3 hours, reduce vehicle operating costs by 30%, and lower accident rates by 45%.
